What is the SEQUENCE Function

The SEQUENCE function generates a series of sequential numbers as a dynamic array. You can control the number of rows, columns, the starting value, and the step between values.

Formula: =SEQUENCE(rows, [columns], [start], [step])

Practical Example 1

Generate 1 to 10 in a column.

Type: =SEQUENCE(10, 1, 1, 1)

Result: 1, 2, 3, ..., 10

Practical Example 2

Generate a 3 by 4 grid of numbers.

Type: =SEQUENCE(3, 4)

Result: a 3-row, 4-column grid of sequential numbers

Practical Example 3

Generate odd numbers.

Type: =SEQUENCE(5, 1, 1, 2)

Result: 1, 3, 5, 7, 9

Practical Example 4

Generate 1 to 12 for month numbers.

Type: =SEQUENCE(12, 1, 1, 1)

Result: 1 to 12

When to Use It

SEQUENCE is used for generating ID lists, for creating dynamic numbering, for building test data, for month or day series, and for any formula where you need a sequence of numbers.
