What is the SUMPRODUCT Function
The SUMPRODUCT function multiplies corresponding values in two or more arrays and returns the sum of those products. It is very powerful for weighted calculations and for conditions that other functions cannot easily handle.
Formula: =SUMPRODUCT(array1, [array2], ...)
Practical Example 1
Quantity in B2:B4 and price in C2:C4.
Type: =SUMPRODUCT(B2:B4, C2:C4)
Result: 1400 (total revenue from all rows)
Practical Example 2
Calculate a weighted average.
Type: =SUMPRODUCT(B2:B4, C2:C4) / SUM(B2:B4)
Result: the weighted average price
Practical Example 3
Sum sales where the region equals Dhaka.
Type: =SUMPRODUCT((A2:A100=Dhaka) * (C2:C100))
Result: the total sales in Dhaka
Practical Example 4
Count with multiple conditions.
Type: =SUMPRODUCT((A2:A100=Dhaka) * (B2:B100=Pen))
Result: the count of matching rows
When to Use It
SUMPRODUCT is used for weighted grade calculations, for invoice totals, for conditional summing without SUMIFS, for counting with multiple conditions, and for any formula where you need to multiply arrays and sum the results.
