What is the SUMIFS Function

The SUMIFS function adds values that meet multiple conditions simultaneously. It is the multi-condition version of SUMIF and is used for the most detailed and segmented business reports.

Formula: =SUMIFS(sum_range, criteria_range1, criteria1, [criteria_range2, criteria2], ...)

Practical Example 1

A is region, B is product, C is sales. Sum Pen sales in Dhaka.

Type: =SUMIFS(C2:C6, A2:A6, Dhaka, B2:B6, Pen)

Result: the total of Pen sales in Dhaka

Practical Example 2

Sum sales above 500 in the Dhaka region.

Type: =SUMIFS(C2:C100, A2:A100, Dhaka, C2:C100, >500)

Result: the total matching both conditions

Practical Example 3

Sum HR salaries above 40000.

Type: =SUMIFS(B2:B100, A2:A100, HR, B2:B100, >40000)

Result: the total of matching salaries

When to Use It

SUMIFS is used for sales by region and product, for expenses by category and month, for inventory by category and status, and for any report that needs segmented totals with multiple conditions.
