What is the INT Function
The INT function rounds a number down to the nearest integer. It always rounds toward negative infinity, so INT of a negative number becomes more negative. INT is useful for removing decimals and for bucketing values.
Formula: =INT(number)
Practical Example 1
A2 contains 8.9.
Type: =INT(A2)
Result: 8
Practical Example 2
A2 contains -8.9.
Type: =INT(A2)
Result: -9 (rounds down toward negative infinity)
Practical Example 3
Bucket values into groups of 10.
Type: =INT(A2/10)*10
Result: the value rounded down to the nearest 10
Practical Example 4
Remove decimals from a price.
Type: =INT(45.99)
Result: 45
When to Use It
INT is used for bucketing numbers into groups, for removing decimals from prices, for age calculations, for indexing arrays, and for any situation where you need the integer part of a number without rounding up.
