What is the COUNTIFS Function
The COUNTIFS function counts how many cells meet multiple conditions at the same time. Each condition has its own range and criteria. All conditions must be true for a row to be counted. This is the multi-condition version of COUNTIF.
Formula: =COUNTIFS(criteria_range1, criteria1, [criteria_range2, criteria2], ...)
Practical Example 1
Column A has gender, column B has grade. Count female students with grade A.
Type: =COUNTIFS(A2:A6, Female, B2:B6, A)
Result: 2
Practical Example 2
Count orders in Dhaka with value above 1000.
Type: =COUNTIFS(A2:A100, Dhaka, C2:C100, >1000)
Result: the count of matching orders
Practical Example 3
Count employees in HR with salary above 40000.
Type: =COUNTIFS(A2:A100, HR, C2:C100, >40000)
Result: the count of matching employees
When to Use It
COUNTIFS is used for attendance reports by grade and gender, for sales reports by region and product, for survey analysis, and for any report that needs segmented counting across multiple conditions.
